Shopping for your wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day. But let’s be honest—it's also one of the most overwhelming. Between timelines, styles, fittings, and budgets, there’s a lot to think about. That’s where we come in.

At Platinum Bridal, our bridal stylists have helped numerous brides find their dream designer wedding dress, and we’re here to answer your most common wedding dress questions.

When Should I Start Shopping for My Wedding Dress?

Ideally, you should start shopping 9 to 12 months before your wedding date. While it might feel early, this timeline gives you room to breathe. Designer wedding dresses often take 4 to 6 months to arrive once ordered. You’ll also want to leave time for alterations, which usually take another 2 to 3 months.

Starting early gives you more options and less stress. If you’re on a tighter schedule, don’t panic—there are still great options available. Many boutiques carry off-the-rack styles or offer rush delivery for an additional fee.

At Platinum Bridal, we offer specialized Bridal Appointments of 1 hour and 45-minute appointment to find the perfect wedding dress.

What Should I Bring to My Bridal Appointment?

This is an important wedding dress question! Bring nude or seamless undergarments and a strapless bra if you plan to wear one. Shoes with a similar heel height to what you’ll wear on your big day are also helpful. Most importantly, bring an open mind and people who support your vision. Too many opinions can lead to confusion, so keep your entourage small and positive. You don’t need to have a Pinterest board filled with dress ideas, but knowing your general style preferences can help guide your stylist in the right direction.

What If I Don’t Cry When I Find "The One"?

Not every bride has a teary-eyed moment in the dressing room—and that’s perfectly okay. Some brides know right away. Others realize it’s the right dress after trying a few more and coming back to it. Trust your gut. If you feel confident, beautiful, and like yourself in the dress, that’s your moment. The right designer wedding dress isn’t about theatrics—it’s about how it makes you feel.

How Many Dresses Should I Try On?

There’s no one answer to this wedding dress question.  Some brides find their dream dress within the first three gowns. Others need to explore a bit more. Most brides try on between 5 and 10 dresses before saying yes. The key is to stay focused. If you try on too many, it can become overwhelming. Once you find a gown that checks all your boxes and feels right, stop looking. You don’t need to keep searching just to be sure—when you know, you know.
